There’s something special about designing a home w

There’s something special about designing a home where scale becomes part of the story.

On the ground floor of this home, there was a large amount of space, so the size of the furnishings was paramount. Each piece needed to feel substantial enough to sit comfortably within the scale of the rooms, while still creating warmth and a sense of intimacy.

Layering textures, soft furnishings and carefully selected pieces throughout the home helped bring balance to the larger spaces, while the natural light moving through each room softened the overall feel and highlighted the beautiful details within the materials.

The twin bedroom was designed with texture in mind at every turn. From the bedside table and wallcoverings through to the soft furnishings, every element was carefully considered to create a calm and inviting space.

I sourced all of the fabrics, with the bedheads and cushions custom made to suit the room perfectly. A mix of soft whites and greens was layered through boucles, French corduroy, linens and textured weaves to bring depth without overwhelming the space.

These final layers are often what make a newly built or renovated home feel complete, bringing warmth, personality and a sense of connection to each space.

Before my annual leave, I designed a new staircase for our home, the same thoughtful, detail-driven approach I bring to my client projects, considering position, rise/run, head height and code requirements - and my husband, a true master of detail, is bringing it to life. No end grain in sight on the treads, and all to Australian standards. There’s still a lot more intricate work to go, but it’s shaping up to be something truly special. I can’t wait to unveil the American oak staircase when it’s complete and share the craftsmanship and beautiful grain that make a bespoke design like this so worthwhile.

While on extended leave from MotzDESIGNS, I’ve been wandering the world and finding inspiration in the details that often go unnoticed — like doors.
.
I’ve always been fascinated by doors in every country I’ve travelled to — from North Africa to the Middle East, across Asia, Europe and Scandinavia — and I still find myself photographing them to this day. Entrance doors have a way of making a statement: of permanence, craftsmanship, and quiet power. The weight of them, the repetition of hand-worked panels, and the surrounding architecture speak of an era when buildings were designed to endure, not just exist. Details like this remind me why I slow down, look up, and let cities speak.

I wanted to share some photos I took of the interior of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral.
.
The size, scale and architecture were breathtaking — one of the most impressive cathedrals I’ve seen, particularly in the level of detail throughout. The materials are extraordinary, from the stuccoed walls with biblical frescoes, to the Venetian-style mosaic floors, rich with history and craftsmanship. The Rococo gilt wood altarpiece and the intricate ceiling detailing complete the experience.
.
Spaces like this always stay with me. They quietly influence how I think about proportion, materiality and detail — and have already inspired ideas I’m excited to carry through into future client projects.

One of my favourite details in my client’s kitchen

One of my favourite details in my client’s kitchen is how the vignettes sit so effortlessly against the Arctic Ice Marble. Its soft veining and cool luminosity create the perfect backdrop for curated pieces that bring warmth and personality into the space.

I love using vignettes to balance the hard surfaces in a kitchen. A few beautifully chosen elements can completely transform a bench or corner:
. - Layered timber chopping boards for texture - A sculptural salt and pepper shaker to introduce shape - A glass bottle of olive oil with chillies for a pop of colour - Natural branches or greenery to bring the stone to life - And of course… Ottolenghi’s cookbook, full of beautifully rich recipes and colour.
.
The goal is always intentional simplicity — curating pieces you genuinely love, while allowing the marble to remain the hero.
.
Arctic Ice Marble has such a calm, refined presence… it makes every vignette feel like its own moment of quiet luxury.
